Acacia trees have a tremendous positive impact on the environment. The trees act as a barrier to desertification while nourishing soils through nitrogen fixation, controls soil erosion, and stabilizes rainfall cycles. In addition, acacia tree supply forage and shade for livestock, offer a genuine home to several bird species, and are generally a supportive environment for biodiversity.
Acacia EPZ operates in the ASALs regions where the communities mainly depend on pastoralism. Introducing a commercial value for Acacia Gum to the communities has greatly improved their livelihoods. We focus more on women and youth, by empowering them through training and encouraging them to seek alternative sources of income, such as gum harvesting, honey harvesting, bead making and goat rearing.
